GOP: Down and Out...For Now

In all honesty, I hope the GOP transforms for the better and regains its prominence...but in a positive way. Competition within political parties always benefits the ordinary U.S. citizen. I'd like to think that the GOP is now even more willing to tackle issues of racism and homophobia within the party after the evident drop in favorable popularity and support. However, if conventional GOP'ers are still dealing with such intolerable acts in the 21st century, like 24-year-old Rachel Hoff who unsuccessfully ran for President of the Young Republicans after agreeing and consenting to racist remarks, then the GOP will never, and definitely shouldn't, garner enough votes to lead Capitol Hill.

* Interesting Sidenote: GOP domination in the ’80s and ’90s was built on strong youth support for Ronald Reagan; in fact, Generation Xers still identify themselves as Republicans more than any other generation, according to a Gallup polling. Meanwhile in the 2008 election, The 18-29 crowd voted for Obama by a margin of 66-32.

- Therefore for those claiming that Democrats are in charge due to an unusually high number of uneducated young voters who were "rebellius", then what is your answer to the 1980 election in which Ronald Reagan, the Cult Icon of the GOP that Republicans still try to emulate today, was elected to office?
