If At First You Don't Suceed...Give Up, For Now.

After a chaotic and well, lets admit it, failed attempt of pushing Health Care legislation through Congress, the Senate has at least decided to temporarily proceed with other initiatives and bills to legislate upon. I mean they can't possibly hone in on a bill that right now has minimal public support (thanks to the means in which Congress presented public-option Health Care before the floor). It's just a waste of time. They must achieve bi-partisan support first, and that should be accomplished first in the Finance Committee, and then hopefully it will be marked up appropriately and the logistics of funding the bill will be more reasonable to all parties involved. As I've said many times before: Health Care Reform is definitely necessary, and now is the time to sort out a joint resolution for it. Expressing urgency for reform is a first step for the GOP, and establishing a financially-acceptable legislation to act upon should be the top priority for Democrats.

Update:
  • Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) continues to negotiate with a few Republicans in hopes of reaching a bipartisan deal.
  • Democratic leaders now hope Baucus will unveil legislation in the next two weeks that can then be merged over the August break with a bill passed by the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
